Just another WordPress.com weblog

Back in the USA (for now…) August 6, 2009

Hooray for proper Internet access! I like traveling, but it does limit my Internet activities to checking my email and sometimes checking the news. It certainly does not allow me to blog.

I had a nice trip back from the UK. Thanks to some friends who work for British Airways I was upgraded to business class which is always nice for a trans-Atlantic flight. Aside from the huge seats and better food, the people in business class are almost always better behaved. I’m not sure why especially since the ratio of adults to children is about the same wherever you sit. Shrug.

I have lots of things to do while I am in the US. They range from serious things like getting my car inspected to silly things like getting a haircut and eating a cheese steak. 🙂 I also have a meeting with a career specialist. I’ve worked with her before and she is excellent because she has an extensive network. My own network isn’t too shabby, but the people are mainly located on either coast. They are certainly not located in the middle of nowhere…err…North Texas.

Please do not misunderstand me. I am excited to move to North Texas. I think it  has lots of outstanding qualities. However, in today’s job market it matters more who you know rather than what you know. I know one person in North Texas and he told me that because of my qualifications I was “too expensive” to hire. Yikes!

Oh! Here’s a question when I was last in the US there was a television station called the SciFi channel which I would watch all the time. Now, they have changed their name to SyFy!?! Why? Seems silly to me!
