Quick Post August 26, 2009

This week will be a light blogging week. My friends from England are here visiting and we have a very busy week planned. This includes lots of shopping and sight seeing and even a teeny bit of relaxation. πŸ™‚

I will post a full recap once they are on their way back to England.

Interesting Activity August 23, 2009

I’ve been doing a kind of self-help, long-term exercise for artist’s aimed at refreshing creativity. Yes, I know how silly this sounds. I do not usually get involved in these type of self-help exercises because I am a bit cynical, but this particular one is actually producing some results.

Anyway, most of the program will not be of interest to my readers, but perhaps my favourite part of the program will be. The program requires that every morning you hand-write three pages in a notebook or journal. The pages can be stream of consciousness and can be about anything. They can be positive, negative or just rambling, it does not matter. The most important part is not stressing over punctuation, spelling and other grammatical conventions – you just write how and what you want. The second most important part is that neither you nor anyone else is to read your pages until after you have finished the program. Even once you have finished only you may read your pages otherwise you will subconsciously or consciously worry about what someone else will think. It’s sounds a little cheesy, but I’ve found that doing this every morning really makes me a less anxious person. I can write down any minor worries and after I write them it’s like they are gone. I do not entirely understand, but it works for me.

I suppose a blog could act as these pages, but only if it were totally private. The fact that no one will read my notebook is really freeing.

Just thought I’d share. πŸ™‚

Rosetta Stone really works! August 22, 2009

I tend to by a pretty cynical person especially when it comes to products that claim to make life easier. I find that most of these products really are “too good to be true.”

However, Rosetta Stone is a major exception to the rule. I guess it is really not too good to be true because it is expensive. Anyway, it really works. I am learning the language and it is not painful at all. The only extra thing I’ve done (that they do suggest) is putting notes with the names of objects on them on the actual objects. Not too hard to do honestly. I have been using the program every day, but I only use it for as long as I want. Some days this is as little as 10 minutes (about the length of one lesson) and other days this is longer (an hour or so). At first I felt strange talking to my computer, but now that I have gotten used to it, it is pretty fun.

I highly recommend this product especially if you are PCSing and need to learn a little bit of the language fast!

Ok…wow…just wow. August 21, 2009

I make an effort to not let what others say bother me, but boy oh boy as that been hard these past few weeks. Maybe I’m just stressed out from the PCS which is causing little things to get to me more?

I was having a conversation with another air force wife last night and I was looking at a list of activities at our new base and I was excited because there were lots of activities I was genuinely interested in – community service, exercise classes, etc. I made a flippant comment about how I would be happy to do any activity on the list except for scrap booking. No offense to anyone that does scrapbook, but I just do not care for this activity even when I’m doing it with other people. Well, my friend gave me this big speech about how selfish I was being and that I had to scrapbook or it would hurt my husbands career and on and on…eventually ending up with how she thinks it is also selfish that I am so interested in getting a job. Just wow. I listened quietly and then made an excuse that someone was at the door so I had to go since I really did not wish to continue speaking with her because I did not want to start an argument.

I really did not think that disliking scrap booking would lead to this kind of conversation. In fact, when I made the comment I thought I was being kind of funny. I’ve been trying to brush the whole conversation off. I am even assuming that maybe my friend was just having a bad day or was hormonal or something, but honestly I am having a hard time getting over it. Even though I know not everyone is like this, it is still upsetting. It makes me feel like some three-headed-purple-monster sometimes just because I do not quite fit the mold that everyone seems to want me to.

Here’s to a better day tomorrow. πŸ™‚

Mmmmmm…Peaches!

Filed under: Misa — Misa @ 3:16 am

After a failed trip yesterday, I finally made it to the orchard today for peaches and blueberries. They are so good I even ate some of the blueberries in the car on the way home…and have been eating them ever since. At least they are healthy!

The rest of the day was spent packing, labeling and inventorying various boxes for our move to Texas. This has actually been a fun project for me because I am packing wedding presents that we left here in the US while we were in England. It’s like Christmas as there are a few things everyday that I rediscover. Today’s rediscovered item was a really nice set of steak knives.

This evening I went out to dinner with my in-laws. They are seriously the best in-laws in the world and I adore them – they are just so nice! The only thing that sometimes bothers me is that I often get the impression that they are totally disinterested in my career goals. I’m not sure if it is because they think I should start having kids and become a SAHM or if they are worried that it will effect their son’s career. Eh, no big deal. πŸ™‚ Our dinner was really tasty. I had a prawn quesadilla and afterwards we went to Rita’s for some Swedish Fish flavoured water ice. Yummmy!

Tomorrow I plan to finish a pastel drawing I’m working on as well as doing some more packing (does it ever truly end?). Β I am also excited to watch the new season of Project Runway which I taped this evening since I knew I would be out for dinner. I hope it’s just as good as when the show was owned by Bravo!
